How to Get Your Voice Heard at the UN in September 2016

This week Victoria Beckham posted a Facebook video that went viral for all the right reasons. It was a new remix of the timeless Spice Girls song Wannabe, but it not only got us all jumping around – it invited us all to have our voices heard at the United Nations in September 2016.

The Global Goals for Sustainable Development were launched in 2015 by the world leaders at the United Nations. They include 17 main global goals, including #5 Gender Equality. All of the goals have different time commitments, but each within the next 15 years (by 2030).
Worldwide, women and girls are disproportionately affected by the challenges below. Yet, they have proven time and time again that they are one of the most (if not the most) essential part to overcoming them. For instance, it has been proven that increasing female education directly contributes to overall higher economic growth.Screen Shot 2016-07-05 at 10.42.11 PM
The Global Goals campaign has launched a different type of movement than most others before it – it’s launched one that invites everyone to take part. The Global Goals now has its own website and social media movement, and believes that for the goals to ever have a chance at working people actually need to know about them. The more attention the public can bring to the goals, the more pressure is put on world leaders to do their best to follow through with these sustainable commitments. And that is exactly what Victoria Beckham’s newest Facebook video has done – brought more attention to them and invited you to continue to increase this pressure on world leaders to not only #telleveryone about the #globalgoals but to also specifically “listen to the voice of girls and women and put them first in policies and plans“.Screen Shot 2016-07-05 at 11.09.53 PM.png
If you take a picture of yourself holding up #WhatIReallyReallyWant when it comes to gender equality worldwide then you can join in on the #GlobalGoals and make your voice count! The video also claims “If you make the noise, we’ll get your message to world leaders at the UN in September.” September 13th, 2016 is when the 71st Regular Session of the UN General Assembly will convene and by posting a simple Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook you can tell the world what you think should be most important to talk about and continue to make progress on. Screen Shot 2016-07-05 at 11.27.09 PM.png
You can also support other parts of the #globalgoals by bringing more attention to them. You can also take your participation to the next level and get connected up with other movements and charities which are working towards eradicating poverty, climate change, and inequalities globally by visiting the Global Goals Website.
Follow the Global Goals on social media to learn more, and even watch their ad encouraging you to #telleveryone in cinemas. You can even download their app here. The more famous the global goals become, the more pressure on world leaders there are to keep them on the top of the world agenda and make some change.
Have your voice heard today by posting #WhatIReallyReallyWant and remember, poppers, to see change, share change, be change. Much love xo.
